I have been weight training for just over a decade now and in recent times I have come to find that everyday weight training can be very mundane and repetitive.
Sure, you are going to tell me to change up my programmes etc., I have. What I then decided to do was to take up Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Kickboxing as form of functional training and to keep things interesting for myself.
For those that do not know what MMA is, it is a full-contact combat sport that allows both striking and grappling, both standing and on the ground, using techniques from other combat sports and martial arts (Judo, Taekwondo, Brazilian JuJitsu, Muay-thai etc).
I have done MMA in the past (2012) but then dropped the ball but I have however recently picked it up again, this time focusing on kickboxing.
Kickboxing coupled with weight training has done wonders for my body and every week I edge closer and closer to my goal. If you want to pick up any form of martial arts so you can go bash heads out in the streets then you are doing it for the wrong reasons. Respect the art and it will treat you well.
